Whether you and your partner bond over good food, or prefer celebrating your love exploring the great outdoors, when in Japan, you have a lot of options on where to celebrate your love for each other. Here are five romantic places in Japan that you can visit with your sweetheart this coming Valentine's Day.
If you are adventure seekers, visit Kumano Kodo
Seal your bond on this pilgrimage through the heart of rural Japan. Walk the trails that ancient pilgrims traversed for hundreds of years at the Kumano Kodo. Recognised by UNESCO World Heritage among “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes”, it has six main routes that can take you across the southern Kansai region. The most challenging of the general mountain hiking routes is the Kohechi route, which is characterised by steep, remote trails that crosses three passes of over 1,000-metre elevation for a distance of 70 km.
If you love water sports, visit Ogasawara Islands
Spread out in the middle of the ocean about 1,000 km south of Tokyo is an archipelago known as the Ogasawara Islands, which is composed of about 30 islands of varying sizes. The dive sites in this area attract underwater lovers with pristine waters teeming with marine life. The most famous of the islands is Chichi-jima, often known as the Galapagos Islands of Asia. Its stunning coral reefs and wide variety of marine life, including bottlenose dolphins, sand-tiger sharks and manta rays are a sight to behold.
