Below, three Japanese theme parks to celebrate Halloween in 2023.

1. Universal Studios Japan (Osaka)

Universal Studios Japan (Osaka)

Universal Studios Japan kickstarts their Halloween 2023.

Universal Studios Japan is a must-visit attraction among travellers year-round. However, it takes a spooky turn this upcoming Halloween season. During the daytime, join the "HAHAHA! Halloween Party," and walk among your favourite park characters dressed in their most hair-raising costumes. Meanwhile, sunset marks the start of the theme park’s "Halloween Horror Nights," featuring ‘zombies’ taking over the joining the "Zombie de Dance" event.

If thrill-seeking adventures fit your Halloween spirit more, explore Universal Studios Japan’s horror-themed attractions set for the season like "Chucky's Carnival of Chaos," "Sadako's Curse: Dark Horror Ride," and "Biohazard: The Extreme +."

The Universal Studios Japan HAHAHA! Halloween Party event is currently ongoing and will conclude on 5 November 2023. As for other attractions, visit Universal Studios Japan’s official website for the complete schedule.

2. Sanrio Character Park Harmonyland (Oita)

Sanrio Character Park Harmonyland (Oita)

Sanrio Character Park Harmonyland combines ‘cute’ and ‘scary’ with their Halloween festivities.

This October, see Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, and the rest of your favourite Sanrio characters at Sanrio Character Park Harmonyland dressed to the nines in their spookiest outfits. For the main highlight, the park is also holding a special “Halloween Night Fever” event happening on 28 and 29 October. This two-night affair will be held after the park’s regular operating hours, transforming the cute and fluffy Harmonyland into a colourful and sparkling Halloween wonderland.

If you’re a true horror junkie, the park also features non-Sanrio-themed Halloween attractions to explore. There’s the “Obaken Zombie Escape” experience where guests navigate through the night looking for a ‘cure’ in a terrifying zombie-infested site; the “Nightmare Hunt - Counterattack of the Ghost Clown” where guests will face off with a ghost clown to escape; the “Nightmare of Blackbirds Square” attraction which is a mystery-themed park tour experience; and the “Nightmare Greeting” where guests will get to snap photos with creepy creatures of the night.
